Please join us in congratulating Gettys D. Broome High School’s JROTC Academic Team as they received 6th place after competing in the National Playoffs for the 2022 National JROTC Academic Bowl Championship in Washington, DC! This team is composed of Brayden E. (Team Captain), Emily B., Yuma S., and Bobby N.
So just how big of a deal is this event? Out of 582 Air Force JROTC academic teams that compete around the world, Broome High School's team was one of just SEVENTEEN that scored high enough to compete at the national level! To then compete in the playoffs and receive 6th place is truly an accomplishment.
"Some schools have competed for 40, 50 years and never made it to Nationals," Major Rod Camp said. "This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these students."
Broome High School’s team scored high enough in the first two rounds to advance to the final competition, which included the all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. They then battled for several rounds to make it to the playoffs where only the top 8 teams were able to compete. While the team fell short in the first round of the playoffs, District Three is so proud of their tenacity, determination, and accomplishments to place 6th out of almost 600 teams globally.
During all of these rounds, cadets are tested on their knowledge of core curriculum such as math, science, and language arts as well as current events, citizenship, leadership skills, and financial literacy.
Congratulations to Brayden, Emily, Yuma, and Bobby!
