Institute for Youth Justice
THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED FROM NOVEMBER 8TH UNTIL FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND, BY 5:00 P.M.
Participation in the 2020 Institute for Youth Justice is open to 11th and 12th grade students who have an interest in learning more about the Criminal Justice System.  Students must be willing to commit to the opening retreat, all sessions, and the graduation ceremony.  Sessions will be held January – April, one weekday per month, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.Visit https://www.instituteforyouthjustice.org.  to apply.  DEADLINE: November 22, 2019 by 5:00 p.m. 
 
SC Test Prep SAT/ACT Cram Session
SC Test Prep is having an ACT/SAT combined cram session on the SAT and ACT on Saturday, November 23rd.  This is the last chance before the December test dates and for the 2019 calendar year.  There is a cost of $125 per student and there are only 30 seats available.  Come to Guidance for details or visit https://www.sctestprep.com or e-mail info@sctestprep.com.
 
Spartanburg Community College Accuplacer Test
A representative from Spartanburg Community College will be at Broome on the morning of Wednesday, December 4th, to give the Accuplacer Test. The Accuplacer Test is used to determine class placement for classes at Spartanburg Community College.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE ACCUPLACER TEST, COME TO GUIDANCE TO SIGN UP. 
 
C-CATS-Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students
C-CATS, Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students, is a weekend retreat designed specifically for high-achieving 9th and 10th grade students. To be considered for the C-CATS program, students must be in the top 10% of their class and whose academic records predict a score of 1300 or higher on the SAT.  Students must be nominated by their Guidance Counselor.  There is a cost of $265.  The C-CATS weekend sessions are in high demand and fill up quickly.  Come to Guidance for a brochure or visit https://www.c-cats.org for details.

Bezos Scholars Program 
The Bezos Scholars Program is a year-long leadership program for high school JUNIORS that inspires and challenges young people to act on their passions and collaborate to address community needs. The Bezos Scholars Program selects 12 students from across the U.S. to join five African Leadership Academy students as Bezos Scholars.  Apply online at https://www.Bezosscholars.org/idea. Student Mentoring Day
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office will host their annual Student Mentoring Day on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.  This is an opportunity for students to be introduced to various divisions and roles at the Sheriff’s Office. The class is open to all public, private, and homeschooled high school students in Spartanburg County interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.  Only five students can attend from Broome.  You cannot have any discipline issues and a criminal background check will be performed by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office on each applicant.  If you are interested in attending, come to Guidance for an application. Applications should be returned to Mrs. Gilmer in Guidance no later than Thursday, February 6, 2020.
 
Converse College School of the Arts 
If your vision is to develop your talents as an artist or performer, Converse College School of the Arts (SOA) may be the answer to your quest.  High school seniors are invited to compete for talent-based scholarships in Art, Dance, Music, Musical Theatre and Theatre.
