Centurion Pride

John Wooden was one of the best basketball coaches who ever lived.  He was not only a great coach but also a great teacher of leadership and character.  He created a “Pyramid of Success” to encourage his players to model successful traits that would help them to have success in life.  This year, Broome High School will highlight one or more words from his “Pyramid of Success”.  Teachers will nominate students who are demonstrating the character trait for a Centurion Pride award.

The January words on Wooden's pyramid are alertness and self-control.  According to Wooden, success results when a person is constantly observing his/her surroundings and is open-minded and eager to learn and improve.  Wooden also noted that good judgment and common sense are often the result of being in control of one's emotions.
