Yearbook Information

Yearbook Day is right around the corner, and almost all the books have been sold! Have you purchased yours yet? If not, hurry! Time…and books…are running out! Order yours online or in Room 613 by Monday, May 2, to guarantee you’ll have a copy of the keepsake on Yearbook Day. The cost is $75, and books will not be sold after May 2. Any extra copies of the book available on Yearbook Day (May 13) will be sold at an additional cost.

AP Calculus Participates in Clemson Calculus Challenge

AP Calculus Particpate in Clemson Calculus Challenge

The AP Calculus class recently traveled to Clemson for the Clemson Calculus Challenge. The students participated in a competition that included a 90-minute individual exam and a team competition. The individual competition consisted of a 40-question exam that ranged in difficulty from fairly difficult to ridiculously hard. The students ate lunch on campus and then regrouped for the team competition, which involved six free response questions. The students were given ten minutes to answer each problem. Points were awarded based on correctness and how fast they teams answered the questions. Fabian Salinas came in 4th place in the individual competition for Division 1. Over forty schools and 283 students participated.

State Teacher of the Year Celebration

State Teacher of the Year Celebration
Broome High School 2016 Teacher of the Year and 2016 Spartanburg School District Three Teacher of the Year attended the State Teacher of the Year celebration in Columbia. During the celebration, Mrs. Greene had the opportunity to meet State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and other district teachers of the year.  Mrs. Greene, history teacher and avid history buff, reported that she truly enjoyed the celebrations and especially enjoyed the tour of the State House. Mrs. Greene stated that she is honored to have been able to represent Spartanburg District Three. 

Summer Reading Titles Announced

The titles for the summer reading program for 2016 have been announced. Students and parents are encouraged to review the titles and summaries (provided by the publisher).  Students will be asked to make their summer reading selections Thursday, April 21.

Announcement Regarding Snow Make-up Days

As required by state law and school district policy, Spartanburg School District 3 is required to make up all student instructional days lost because of snow, ice, and other emergency disruptions.

Friday, March 11 was used as a snow make-up day.  The second snow make-up day will be Tuesday, May 31, which will be the last day of school for students.

Friday, May 27 and Tuesday, May 31 will be half days for students.

Broome Wins a 2015 Gaston Caperton Opportunity Award

Gettys D. Broome High School in Spartanburg has been named a 2015 Gaston Caperton Opportunity Award school by the College Board for providing underrepresented students with the support they need to succeed academically. Gettys D. Broome is one of one of four high schools nationwide to receive the award in 2015 and will receive a $25,000 award to apply toward programs that encourage more students to attend college.
